How to check your ring size

Surprisingly, not all ring gauges give the same result. This can make buying a ring on-line less of a science and more a leap of faith. The good news is that most of us can tolerate a ring ½ a size smaller or up to a full size bigger, than the ideal.

Remember though, that a large stone will act as a drag, and if the ring is too big the stone will be constantly spinning to the wrong side of your hand. Also a wider band will need to be a bigger size than a narrower band.

To make things easier for you, the table below gives UK ring sizes (according to our gauge) and their equivalent internal diameter and circumference, measured in mm, as well as the equivalent US sizes, although to the best of our knowledge rings sold in US sizes are only sold in whole sizes, not fractions or decimals.

We recommend that you find a ring which fits comfortably on the finger you intend to wear your new ring and then measure the internal diameter carefully in mm and compare this with the size chart. If you do not have a suitable ring, or it has been bent out of shape and you're feeling a little cheeky, you might like to call in to your local jeweller and ask for your finger to be measured. Try and do this when your hands are comfortably warm to get a reasonably "average" result.

If you would prefer to measure your finger at home, We can now supply reusable plastic multisizer finger gauges for just 99p to customers or potential customers. The gauge comes complete with clear instructions. To order your gauge, simply select Ring gauge from the categories menu on the left.

Where rings are offered in different sizes remember to select the size from the drop down list. Please note that many of our rings are only available in one size and this is clearly stated in the product description.

If you do get it wrong

The good news - Most rings can be resized up or down 1 to 2 sizes by your local jeweller for a nominal amount and this is not as traumatic as you might think!  Or you can return the ring for a refund within our normal 7 day period.

You will see, that with such very small differences, ring sizing is never going to be a precise science!
